Boredom is Useless
By Robert Tabb

Unaware of the time, I slid down for a rest on my bean bag chair. I fell
into a strange, trance-like state. Everything dissolved when I went
into this trance-like state. Space and time didn't exist. I was sucked
into another world altogether. Only few people have ever been to
this "Other-World." I was floating. The laws of physics were vastly
different than they are in our Universe. I was floating through a
strange haze. Out in front of me I couldn't see anything. I saw an
object float gradually into view. What is it? A book. A book floated
near me and I grabbed it. It was called, How to Save Your Undying Soul
From Eternal Boredom. I opened it to read but all the pages were
blank. I was puzzled over the meaning of this. I stared at the blank
pages for what seemed like an eternity. For all I know it may have
well been. After I was bored of it I let it go, to drift into someone
else's unwary hands.

I was feeling drained. I was getting hungry. It felt as though my physical
body was being gradually torn apart by unknown forces. When I looked
down I noticed that my torso was gradually sinking in. How strange. I
was feeling rather peaceful. The colors and sounds that I experienced
were very comforting. I don't think that there are words in the
english language that could describe the colors and sounds.

I somehow floated to a roadside diner. It was called, Fill Your Brain
Roadside Diner. I quickly moved inside, seeing how I was being
devoured by my hunger. When I got inside, I was surprised to find no
chairs. I don't know why I expected them since there is no gravity. I
don't know why I expected anything here, considering that the laws of
physics and everything else we hold to be true were different. I
approached a table, it had no legs. A robot for a waitress came and
took my order. "What would you like?"

"Hmm, do you have a menu?"

She laughed a long laugh. She was staring at me.

"Okay then, I would like a burger and fries."

Once again she just laughed. "I'll be back with your food in just a
minute."

I was only sitting there for about three seconds before she came back with
a covered plate. She set it before me in the air. "Make sure to
keep it over the table, I don't want a mess to clean up."

When I pulled the cover off I dropped it. I don't know how, but it went
flying into the wall. The waitress gave me a stern look. "I'll be more
carefull with the food."

So now I looked down at the food and there was a mass of purple liquid
floating in the air. I tries to manuever it but it was apparently
alive! It slithered it's way to my face. I began to scream with panic.
Before I could stop what was happening, or even attemp to, the
thing was crawling up my nose and was gone. The other people in
the Diner were staring at me as if there were something wrong with me.
I then realized that they were all sucking these things up their
noses. I got up and left.

I began floating some more through total nothingness, aside from the haze,
until I heard a voice echoing. "Come here. Follow the sound of my
voice." It trailed off. I felt this overwhelming urge to follow, so
follow I did.

I came to a tunnel. The tunnel was full of multi-colored lights, flashing
in a sequence. It appeared to have a pattern but I couldn't decipher
it. I called out, "Hello?" Echo. A bird flew towards me. It was a
dove. It was the whitest dove I had ever seen. It was the most pure
white I'd ever experienced in my entire life. It was without flaw. The
bird hovered in front of me for billions of years before it spoke.

"Go back into your world, bring knowledge with you. Leave boredom behind.
Human minds are too prone to boredom which can lead them
astray from what is important in life. . ."

Just then I was awake. I felt numb all over. I looked at the clock. I was
thirty minutes late for Math.

"Oh, but I hate math. It's so, it's so. . . What is it? I used to have a
reason for disliking math. What was it? Oh well, off to class. . ."
