Desolation

Desolation shows itself as clear empty space
as it pangs against the walls of vacant rooms
and makes silent echos in the space between us
like something pushing us apart.
It speaks in undistinguishable tones to those of us who smell
its strong acidic scent. Desolation is a thick icy and rigid
Holocaust buried beneath bows of sunken ships for a thousand years.
It rises from the ocean floor to take a person away from the rest and
leave them stranded and alone.
Desolation can only be overcome by staying close to the
ones you love.
