There You Were

i woke up and there you were
so quiet, so beautiful
the reflextion from the window lit up your face
you smiled and called for me
i lay in your arms as we both gaze outside and marvel at what we have.
you kiss my temple and watch me sleep apprehensively until the morning
approaches afternoon. we look at each other, our eyes say the words
we have never needed to speak. I curl up into a little ball like a
child wanting attention, you turn and move all my hair to one side,
in the attempt to lay your face against mine, and your arms now
tightly around me.
too enthralled
too comfortable
too afraid that the moment will end
neither person moves.
the drafty window lets in a cold movement of flowing air that trickles up
us like fingers.
every hair stood on end. you pulled the blanket over both of us.
as we turn to accomodate a more comfortable position you once again moved
my hair to one side and kissed my temple, soon i woke up, and see you
there so quiet so beautiful
you were mine.
